| "Youth for Talking and Taking Action": a Jewish-Arab Summer Camp |
A Jewish-Arab summer camp, under the title "Youth for Talking and Taking Action" was held during August in Ma'ayan Charud. The unique program was the outcome of a joint initiative between Netanya Municipality, "Metzila", the Ministry of Public Security, Israel Police and the Israel Association of Community Centers. The camp was part of the "Youth for Talking and Taking Action" program that is operated in Netanya and Kfar Kasm. Amongst the camp's goals: to bring the two neighboring sectors closer together; to change their opinions about one another; to expose the children to various institutes ("Metzila", Israel Police, Magen David Adom, Fire Department, municipality, political parties and the Knesset); to inspire them to lead and affect other youth.
During the program, 5 meeting took place throughout the year between youth from Kfar Kasm and youth from Netanya, both of which are active in community service in their home town.
Despite a slow and frustrating beginning, 40 teenagers at the age of 15-17 formed a solid group of regulars, participating in most of the meetings, resulting in new friendships between the Jewish and Arab youths.
The camp concluded with a number of simulation games played by the teenagers: Solving problems without violence; teamwork based on crime prevention models; a workshop on environmental issues; a cooking competition and a road safety workshop.
