Director General Peleg Experiences Metzila First Hand
18/6/09
The new Director General of the Ministry of Public Security, Chagai Peleg, visted the local council of Tzora-Kadima in order to experience first hand the activity of Metzila, the Ministry of Public Security's Community and Crime Prevention Department.

Prior to the visit, Director Peleg met with the members of Metzila and heard surveys from the regional coordinators about the department's activities in the 73 cities and 15 youth villages it operates in.

The head of the Tzoran-Kadima local council, Yitzhak Golbari, presented the characteristics of the town and the important contribution of Metzila in general and its local coordinator in particular to the strengthening of the personal confidence of the residents and students. The head of the local council also expressed the town's commitment to the "Metzila Way" as he called it, which includes the 'round table' policy, during which all relevant bodies sit and discuss the issues at hand.

An example of Metzila's success in Tzoran-Kadima is the new approach it initiated towards the severe vandalism problems the town was suffering from. Thanks to the decisive, intensive and focused activity led by Metzila, the phenomenon has disappeared from the town. The principal of the Or Torah School spoke about the Metzila activities in the school and how they have significantly improved the behavior of the student and the school-wide social climate all year round.

Director Peleg and the heads of Metzila participated in a unique physical education class in a local school which is taught by a professional behavioral counselor who specializes in sporting activities. After the class, the Director General met with the students who shared their enthusiastic feelings about the activities and how they affected all aspects of their lives – in school, at home and with their friends.
