The Director of "Metsila", the Community and Crime Prevention Division in the Ministry of Public Security, Yaakov Goaz, visited the rap workshop in the "Metzila" program in Yavneh.

The unique workshop, initiated by the Yavneh municipality and "Metsila", consists of 15 Ethiopian teenagers who use the music as a tool of expression and self identity. During the weekly meetings, the teenagers discussed subjects such as the Israeli society; the Ethiopian culture and music; absorption difficulties, and juvenile violence. The "Metsila" members crystallized their thoughts and formed them in personal rap songs, backed up by a Musanko, a traditional Ethiopian music instrument.

The Ethiopian teenagers relayed a clear message in their music: "We are proud Ethiopians. Despite the difficulties, we will not break; we will aspire to progress, because our future is here. We will go the whole distance for a better future".
The workshop was accompanied by Jeremy Cole, who specializes in education through music.

Director Goaz also visited the "Metsila" – Yavneh animal-care program for children. The program which is in its second year, was initiated by the Yavneh Municipality and "Metsila", and exposes 75 children to the life of animals while developing team work, tolerance and discipline. According to the youngsters' parents, the weekly work with the parrots, rabbits, guinea pigs and turtles has calmed their behavior.

Director Goaz heard surveys from representatives of the local police and education system, presenting the crime prevention programs in the city and the substantial decrease in violent occurrences, vandalism and drug abuse in the city.
While concluding the visit, Director Goaz congratulated the excellent cooperation and work in the city. "Metsila operates here in a city which is united in the joint effort in launching the community to new heights" said the director.
