Statement of Minister Gideon Ezra
As published in Innovation Exchange No.12
The Ministry of Public Security and its executive arms, the Israel Police and the Israel Prison Service, work night and day to defeat the criminal forces in Israel and maintain public order, while at the same time waging yet another battle against the forces of terrorism, wherever they may come from and whoever raises his hand against our civilian population. It is precisely in times like these, when the peace of the world needs constant defense, when states east and west, north and south, find themselves forced to fight off terrorist attacks, that we feel most urgently how vital international collaboration is, and that we see that cross-border cooperation is the only way to catch terrorists and forestall their bloody schemes.
Facing these severe challenges, the Ministry has sought out, and even developed, the most advanced technologies capable of protecting an open society and of improving service to our citizens. Yet we do not for a moment neglect the resources required for the task of individual rehabilitation. These goals and efforts are central to our crime reduction strategy and our steady drive towards a more enlightened society.
This journal surveys the projects and programs Ministry staffers are working on, with space to offer just a ‘taste’ of each. On some of them we are working jointly with our counterparts overseas, although even in these the unique complexities and difficulties inherent to the State of Israel ensure that our contribution is a special one. And ever-widening globalization requires that we continue to expand this collaboration with our friends around the world.
I am pleased to have this opportunity to invite any one interested to come and admire at first hand the technological advances the Ministry is making and implementing across the board, on every front it is called to fight on.
