Israel remembers the fallen men and women of the Israel Border Police
7/10/08

On Monday, October sixth, a memorial ceremony was held for the fallen police men and women from the Israel Border Police. 443 police men and women have fallen since the establishment of the Israel Border Police. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Public Security, the Commissioner of the Israel Police, the Commander of the Border Police, the top brass of the Israel Police, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Israel, mayors and representatives of the bereaved families.

Minister Dicter spoke about the contribution the Border Police Officers have on Israel's homeland security and the battle against crime. "Blessed be the country and blessed be the police force who have the border police fighting on their behalf. Many border police officers have paid with their lives and their heroic stories have yet to be told".

"There is a feeling that the Israel Police is working single handedly against the crime organizations in Israel. The lack of support and encouragement for its success and the over joy and gloating following unsuccessful incidents has become a phenomenon and not single occurrences. People with their own personal interests are trying to affect the Israel Police's operational work, and I intend on putting a stop to it".

The Commissioner of the Israel Police, Inspector General Dudi Cohen spoke about the Border Police as a major contributor to the strength of the Israel Police in particular and Israel's society as a whole. "The officers of the Border Police bring a new spirit to the police; a spirit of determination, devotion, pride and sacrifice. A whole country is in great debt to the Border Police. The stories of the fallen are a ray of light and vision for our future.

The Commander of the Israel Border Police stressed the importance of remembering the fallen, saying that the police embrace the bereaved families and recognizes the bond created between all operatives from all religions who faithfully serve their country in the border police.
