8/6/09
A festive happening took place on May 31, in the local council of Azur, lead by the Youth Department in the local municipality and Metzila, the Ministry's Community and Crime Prevention Department.

The happening focused on quality of life and environmental issues. The "Green Community" happening is the opening event of the "Youth Week" which started that same week in Azur.

Prior to the happening, preliminary activities in the schools on patience, tolerance, friendship, communication and "Green Communities" took place. Many activities took place over the week, including an evening event honoring the young volunteers in the city, and the "Government Rotation" program during which local youth worked alongside senior political for the day.

The objective of the program is to minimize juvenile violence and vandalism by strengthening the sense of belonging among the local residents. The "Drawing Green" program brought together professional artist, local school students and Metzila volunteers who painted walls with pictures titled "Responsibility and Giving".

The local youth also had arts and crafts stations, food stations which proceeds went to the youth activities in the city, and explanatory stations titled "I too stay away from violence".

The event was extremely successful with hundreds of students, teachers, parents, educators and local residents participating.

"This is a great success for the program and a great sense of satisfaction for us all, to see the local youth cooperating, initiating and leading in our community" concluded Ariyeh Pichter, the Head of the Azur Council.
