Nigerian Minister of Police: We intend on implementing the Israeli "City without Violence" program
21/12/09
The Minister of Public Security, Yitzhak Aharonovitch, held a work meeting in the beginning of December with his Nigerian counterpart, the Minister of Police, Ibrahim Yaakubu-Lameh.

The two spoke about the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of terror, crime, municipal security, community policing, and confronting the alcohol abuse issues in Israel and securing the oil facilities in Nigeria.
Minister Aharonovitch surveyed the Israel Police routine security measures, activities against terror, criminal organizations and severe crime, and also prevented the "City without Violence" program – the Ministry's national program designed to confront all types of violence within cities. The Minister also elaborated on the future work plans of the Ministry.

The Nigerian Minister was very impressed with the implementation of the City without Violence program and said that it was a very interesting program which produces results in a short period of time. He stated his desire to implement it in a number of cities in Nigeria and the two ministers agreed on establishing joint work team towards the implementation.

"For years the criminal arena in Israel was neglected due to difficulties and national security issues" said Minister Aharonovitch, "and we are on the brink of the conceptual change in that field. The Israeli Prime Minister understands the importance of the subject and placing it on the top of the national agenda. We expect to see the changes in the near future. I suggest creating joint work teams designated to help promote out mutual interests and kindly request that Nigeria stands by Israel's side.

The Nigerian Minister concluded: "Israel is blessed with excelling human resources and many technological capabilities; all while sharing its knowledge in order to make the world a better place. The Nigerian Police is structured similarly to the Israel Police, yet covers a much larger space. We are very much interested in implementing Israeli models in the field of homeland security.
