In part of the Metzila program in the city of Netivot, a workshop titled "Violence through the Eyes of the Camera" was held for fifteen at-risk teenagers. The workshop focused on violence in the perspective of the media and was run by Daniel Hajabi, journalist and photographer for the Israeli Channel 10. The workshop was run as an open and sincere discussion between all of the participants.
As the afternoon got started, the youngsters were a bit hesitant and quite, but after a while they started to warm up to the lecturer and his stories and started to partake in the discussions while showing great interest.
Mr. Hajabi spoke to the teenagers about his profession and shared his personal experiences and stories while covering violent stories in the Israeli society. He stressed the fact of how easy it is find oneself in a violent situation: "one single word can lead to a violent occurrence which in a blink of an eye can lead to murder".
The teenagers spoke about how the workshop gave them a new perspective on the whole issue of violence, particularly to the myth of glory which is associated with the major crime families and their life styles in Israel. They admitted to having a second thought about their future and showed keen interest in meeting again with Mr. Hajabi.
