| City of Beit Shemesh acts against alcohol abuse |

Due to recent fatal car accidents by the City of Beit Shemesh, it was decided to promote youth activities titled "Violence is Not in Our Court" and "Teenage Alcohol Consumption Can Kill". According to police reports, the recent car accident during which six people were killed, was caused by alcohol consumption and failure to wear seatbelts.
The horrific accident left the city wounded and hurt, which led to the decision to join forces with Metzila, the Ministry's Community and Crime Prevention Department, and the Israel National Road Safety Authority, in creating a number of activities in memory of the casualties of the accident. One of the activities was a youth mini-soccer tournament and an adult mini-soccer tournament.
120 children took part in the tournament, divided into 12 teams. The tournament was attended by Aviram Bruchian, a star player on the Israel national team and the Beitar Jerusalem team. Throughout the games of the tournament, signs fliers against drinking and violence were given out, as well as water bottles with the labels "We don't drink and drive" and "Tired? Take a break from driving".
Simona, the mother of Moshe Iluz, who was killed in the car crash spoke at the events: "It has been two months since that horrible day, and we are attempting to live with the tragedy. This is a unique opportunity to reach out to our youth and warn them of the dangers of the roads. This is a fun and celebratory event, which is the proper way to remember our sons who loved life and sport."
Metzila, along with the local municipality believes that sporting activities for youth reduces violence in the city and raises awareness for fairness and mutual respect. Throughout 2010, Metzila plans on extending the mini-soccer tournaments and turning it into a leading summer activity.
